Very few people know that in 1977, Jerry Poteet became the first non-Filipino certified in the Filipino Martial Arts by Master Leo Hiron. To this day, Jerry teaches escrima, as well as his own unique weapons art. He teaches a combative weapons art, and also a theatrical version for film and television. His method includes Japanese andEuropean swordplay, American edged weapons art, and a dash of "Jerry martial arts mojo"! He was also the first individual to create different burn patterns for escrima/kali sticks, which is still in use today.

To see Jerry move with a weapon in his hand, is to understand the dictum, "the weapon should be an extension of self".
